The St Mirren Football Club has announced the appointment of a new manager, following the departure of their previous coach.

The club's board have appointed Paul Hartley, who previously worked as the head coach at Hearts and Falkirk, to take over from John McGlynn, who was dismissed last week.

Hartley will be tasked with leading the team towards promotion back into the top flight of Scottish football, having been a successful player during his playing career.

Hearts' former boss Ross Wilson is currently in charge of St Mirren's development squad, but it remains to be seen whether he will continue in that role or if he will be given more responsibility under Hartley.

The move comes after a difficult season for St Mirren, who finished bottom of the Scottish Premiership table and were relegated to the Championship.

However, the club's chairman, Graham Wallace, believes that Hartley's experience and track record will help them achieve success in the coming seasons.

"We're delighted to welcome Paul to the club," said Wallace. "He brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to our coaching staff, and we're confident that he can lead us back to the top flight."

Hartley himself has expressed his excitement about the opportunity to work at St Mirren, saying: "I'm really looking forward to working with the players and the management team at St Mirren.

"I know they're a great bunch of people and I'm excited to see what we can achieve together."
